DNA in history and anthropology
Introduction
DNA has been used in the historical/anthropological scene to identify genetic evolution in living species over time. Since each molecule of DNA carries a specific set of genetic information, and since genes mutate over time within a species, DNA analysis can be used to identify the process of natural selection in a species' evolution. This practice is known as 'Phylogenetics'. Likewise, DNA has been used in the familial setting, where DNA matches are used to identify lost family members and resolve historical murders. This type of practice is referred to as 'Genetic Genealogy'.
Phylogenetics
Typically known as the study of genetic traits in order to identify similarities across species for the purpose of tracking down evolutionary history. DNA samples are taken all across the board, and assimilated into molecular sequence data and/or morphological data matrices. Relative genetic comparison are analyzed, and theories are developed about the degree of relation between evolving species.
Genetic Genealogy
Basically the same thing as genealogy itself, but with the added component of genetic verification at hand. This field used DNA testing to identify historical family members thought, but not entirely known to be related. This type of testing is also used in paternity verification, where the question of biological father can now be answered using DNA referencing.
Anthropology
Description : The work of geneticists who have labored for years to map human DNA is the subject of this offbeat yet highly informative documentary from the PBS series Nova. Host Robert Krulwich, a correspondent for ABC Nightline, visits with scientists who explain, in terms understandable to laymen, the enormous challenges faced and overcome by scientists working on the Human Genome Project.

Description : What makes DNA different from hordes of competitors purporting to help readers understand genetics is that it is written by none other than James Watson, of Watson and Crick fame. He and his co-author Andrew Berry have produced a clear and easygoing history of genetics, from Mendel through genome sequencing. Watson offers readers a sense of immediacy, a behind-the scenes familiarity with some of the most exciting developments in modern science.
